Passenger movements at Malta IAP in August reached an all-time record of 427,924. The increase in passenger movements, when compared to the same month last year, is equivalent to 13.4% or 50,641 movements. In August, seat capacity has also hit an all-time record of 536,495 during the same month, i.e. an increase of 10.1% or 49,191 seats.In August, aircraft movements grew by 8.7% over the corresponding period last year, whilst the average seat load factor also increased by a significant 2.4% to reach 79.8% - up from the 77.4% registered in August 2009. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) was 9.7% higher than that registered in August last year, whilst cargo and mail was 0.4% lower than that recorded during the same month in 2009.
All the core markets registered increases during the month of August with Spain, Italy and France growing significantly by 31.1%, 28.6% and 13.7% respectively, whereas the United Kingdom and Germany, recorded a more modest increase of 6.8% and 5.3% respectively.
The results for the first eight months of the year, in terms of passenger movements, therefore show an increase of 11.9% when compared to the same period last year, totalling 2,210,695 passenger movements. The strong increase of 9.3% in seat capacity was the main driver of this result, whilst the average seat load factor improved by 1.5% reaching 70.8% for the period January to August 2010.
