Malta International Airport saw a passenger increase of 11.2% in January 2014, over the same period last year, thanks to added capacity and a consistently positive seat load factor.
Traffic from the U.K. grew by 6.2%, thanks to the growth registered on the Liverpool, Edinburgh and Bristol routes. Traffic from Italy - the second biggest market - grew by 10.8%, mainly due to increased capacity in the Northern routes. A significant increase in capacity and seat load factor also contributed to substantial growth on the Libyan route.
Meanwhile, aircraft movements for the month increased by 10.5%. This was reflected in the increase of 10.6% in seat capacity which reached 299,172, when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Seat Load Factor registered an increase of 0.3%, while the maximum take-off weight increased by 12.3% when compared to 2013 figures.
